St. Louis startups take home prize money at Startup Connection – St. Louis Business Journal

Nearly a dozen companies took home prizes at this year’s Startup Connection.

The annual event, held Wednesday at The Globe Building, 710 N. Tucker Blvd. in downtown St. Louis, featured dozens of startups in a wide variety of sectors including advanced manufacturing, bioscience, consumer products, education and technology. More than 60 startups were selected to present as part of the event’s Venture Showcase, competing for prizes that included cash, office space and professional services.

GiftAMeal, a mobile application that helps provide a meal to someone in need each time a user takes a photo on its app at a partner restaurant, took home the event’s largest prize: $10,000 in consulting services from consulting firm Slalom. The startup also won a $2,500 cash prize from Enterprise Holdings. GiftaMeal’s founder, Andrew Glatz, said the consulting services and cash prize will be used to figure out how to best scale the startup.
